Description

As part of Black History Month, the Alleyne School Alumni Association (UK) and Friends are hosting an audience with former West Indian Cricketer and President of Kent County Cricket Board, John Shepherd. Historian Alan Smith will be leading the conversation with John about his journey from humble beginnings in Barbados to his status as an internationally known cricketing legend.

John Shepherd was born in1943 in Belleplaine, in the rural parish of St Andrew. He played in 5 tests between1969 to 1971. On his debut, he took five wickets in the first innings against England in Manchester. He has enjoyed a long career where he played in West Indies, England, Australia, South Africa and Rhodesia. He was Wisden Cricketer of the year in 1979 and won the Ryder medal for his performances during 1976-77. After eventually retiring, for seven years he was the cricket professional at Eastbourne College in Sussex, and in March 1998 was appointed the Regional Development Officer for the Americas region, based at the West Indies Cricket Board in Antigua.

As John is an alumnus of the Alleyne School, Barbados, we the UK Chapter are very pleased to host this event where cricketing enthusiasts and others can enjoy hearing first hand from this great all rounder and humanitarian.
